Grinding Media
The grinding media in a ball mill are typically steel balls of different diameters, loaded into the cylinder in specific proportions. The grinding media can also be made of steel bars, depending on the application.
Working Principle of Ball Mill
1. Depending on the particle size of the grinding material, the material is loaded into the cylinder through the hollow shaft at the feed end of the ball mill.
2. As the cylinder of the ball mill rotates, the grinding media adheres to the inner liner of the cylinder due to inertia, centrifugal force, and friction.
3. When the grinding media reaches a certain height while being carried by the rotating cylinder, they are ejected by their own gravity, acting like projectiles that crush the materials inside the cylinder.
4. The materials are uniformly fed into the first chamber of the mill through the hollow shaft, following a spiral path.
5. The chamber is equipped with stepped or corrugated liners, which are embedded with steel balls of various specifications.
6. The rotation of the cylinder generates centrifugal force, causing the steel balls to fall and exert significant impact and grinding effects on the materials.
7. After coarse grinding in the first chamber, the materials pass through a single-layer partition and enter the second chamber, where they undergo further grinding with smooth liners and steel balls.
8. The powdered materials are discharged through a discharge grate, indicating the completion of the grinding operation.
